Retirement

Prof PS Robi, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, retired on July 31, 2026, after nearly 30 years of service at IIT Guwahati. He joined the Institute on Feb 19, 1997.

Prof Robi was the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department from 2003 to 2006 and the Dean of Research and Development from 2009 to 2012. During his tenure as Dean (R&D), he established the Technology Incubation Centre at IIT Guwahati and served, in an ex-officio capacity, with several key institutional committees relating to biosafety, intellectual property rights, animal ethics, radiation safety and human ethics. He also served as President of the Council of Management of the IITG Technology Incubation Centre.

Prof Robi was the Deputy Director of the Institute from 2017 to 2020, and served as a Member of the Board of Governors of IIT Guwahati from January 2013 to December 2014.

Beyond IIT Guwahati, Prof Robi has contributed to academic and research governance at the national level. He served on the Board of Governors of NIT Nagaland and has contributed to programme and technical advisory committees associated with the DST, Govt of India, and ANRF.
