Prof PS Robi, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, retired on July 31, 2026, after nearly 30 years of service at IIT Guwahati. He joined the Institute on Feb 19, 1997. Prof Robi was the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department from 2003 to 2006 and the Dean of Research and Development from 2009 to 2012. During his tenure as Dean (R&D), he established the Technology Incubation Centre at IIT Guwahati and served, in an ex-officio capacity, with several key institutional committe

Mr. Kumud Barman, Executive Engineer in the Infrastructure Planning and Management Section, retired on July 31, 2026 after more than 26 years of service. Mr Barman joined IIT Guwahati on April 17, 2000. The Institute thanks him for his invaluable service and wishes him a happy and healthy retirement.

Appointment
IIT Guwahati is happy to welcome D. Bhrigu Kumar Lahkar to the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology as an Assistant Professor. Dr Lahkar did his PhD in École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers. This was followed by postdoctoral research in IIT Madras and Université Gustave Eiffel. He then worked as an Assistant Professor in ECAM LaSalle and IIT BHU.

Romen Ch. Dutta, Assistant Physical Education Officer in the Gymkhana Office, Student Affairs Section, retired on May 31, 2026 after nearly 30 years of service. Mr Dutta joined IIT Guwahati on May 11 1996. The Institute thanks him for his invaluable service and dedication towards health, well being and sportsmanship on campus.

Prof. Kaustubha Mohanty Takes Charge as Dean ACIR
Prof. Mohanty took charge as the Dean for Alumni, Corporate and Industrial Relations (ACIR) on April 1st, 2026. His academic and research expertise is expected to strengthen institutional partnerships and global engagement. Prof Mohanty from the Department of Chemical Engineering brings strong academic and interdisciplinary experience. He did his PhD from IIT Kharagpur and has held post-doctoral positions at McMaster University, Canada, and Ben-Gurion University, Israel. H
