The campus is 400 saplings greener.
Over two days, the IIT Guwahati community planted around 200 saplings — including Ashoka, Areca Palm, Bottle Palm, Neem, Amla, Pink Kanchan, Gulmohar, and Coconut — alongside 200 Bougainvilleas, marking the successful conclusion of Phase 1 of the Institute's campus-wide tree plantation drive.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, participated on both days, supervising the drive and inspiring participants throughout. The initiative reflects the Institute's broader commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and building a greener campus for the future.

For nearly 15 years, this has been a World Environment Day tradition led by the Centre for the Environment (CEnv). This year marks a turning point: CEnv, now part of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability, is expanding the drive into a year-long, multi-phase, campus-wide initiative.

The Institute extends its gratitude to the Horticulture and Maintenance Section, whose ongoing care will ensure these saplings grow into lasting green cover.
