IIT Guwahati Conducts NPTEL Awareness Workshop

The Centre for Educational Technology (CET), IIT Guwahati, brought faculty representatives from 96 higher education institutions across the Northeast for an NPTEL Awareness Workshop.

The Centre for Educational Technology (CET), IIT Guwahati, organized an NPTEL Awareness Workshop on 26 May 2026, bringing together educators from across the North-Eastern region to explore opportunities in digital learning, online certification, and academic outreach.


Diverse Participants and Many Opportunities


The workshop attracted 145 participants, including faculty members from engineering institutions, arts and science colleges, representing 79 colleges and 17 universities. The programme served as an important platform for academic interaction while promoting awareness of NPTEL and its growing ecosystem of online learning initiatives.


The workshop was designed to familiarize faculty members with the wide range of opportunities available through NPTEL, including Online Certification courses, Credit Transfer, Domain Certification, AICTE–NPTEL Faculty Development Programmes, internship opportunities, Industry Associate programmes, CSR Fee Scholarships, the GATE Preparation Portal, Pre-Doctoral Fellowships, and the Local Chapter model for educational institutions.


IIT Guwahati's Online Education Programmes


In addition to NPTEL-related initiatives, participants were introduced to several outreach and educational programmes offered by IIT Guwahati. Sessions highlighted the institute's online BS and M.Tech programmes, AICTE QIP PG Certificate and M.Tech/PhD programmes, GIAN courses, CEEE mentorship programmes conducted in collaboration with INAE and AICTE, and specialized training programmes for defence personnel.


The programme featured addresses by Dr. Salil Kashyap, Coordinator, NPTEL, CET, IIT Guwahati; Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik, Dean of Outreach Education and Skilling, IIT Guwahati; and Chief Guest Mr. Shib Sankar Das from IIT Kharagpur. Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, also addressed the participants and emphasized the growing importance of digital learning platforms and outreach programmes in expanding access to quality education and skill development.


Taking it Forward


By the end of the workshop, participants had gained a comprehensive understanding of NPTEL's offerings and their potential impact on students and institutions. Faculty members are expected to further disseminate this information within their colleges and universities, helping students access flexible learning opportunities and industry-relevant skills.

The workshop concluded with a lunch session and supported IIT Guwahati's efforts to strengthen digital education and capacity-building across the North-Eastern region.
